WTOC told you a few days ago about a house that exploded on E. 45th Street. Today, that house was completely demolished so investigators can figure out what happened.
Watching as the house came apart piece by piece was the woman who lives next door, Julia Kelley. Her garage is just inches away from the ruined house, but she says that was the last thing on her mind. "I thought, who cares about the garage? Who cares? I mean, I was concerned about the man inside and about this family."
The family who owned the carriage house was not hurt, but that's not the case for the man who was inside. He suffered burns over more than 60 percent of his body. He's in the hospital recovering while his home is transformed to this heap of rubble. Now that the house is demolished, investigators can pick through what's left and try to figure out exactly what caused the explosion in the first place.
