SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Imperial Sugar CEO John Sheptor is speaking out about the large fine OSHA imposed on his plant.

Thursday OSHA dished out an $8.7million fine and cited the Port Wentworth facility for dozens of egregious and willful violations. Thirteen people were killed in that explosion, 40 more were injured.

Sheptor is furious over OSHA's findings. "I believe at the expense of Imperial Sugar they have attempted to discredit this remarkable institution that has had so many professionals come through over the last 90 years at the port Wentworth facility," he said. "I just think it's very, very uncalled for to bring it forward at this time. We are now as much a victim of this process as the employees that have lived through this tragedy."

On Tuesday the vice president of Imperial Sugar will go before the US Senate to discuss, for the first time, the conditions he witnessed prior to the explosion on February 7.
