Witnesses say the man was walking down Smith Avenue around 9pm. They say two pit bulls were loose in their yard when they ran up and attacked the man.
A neighbor heard the commotion, looked outside to see what was going on, got a gun and fired off some warning shots. Another neighbor got in her car and pulled up so the man could jump on the hood, which is how he finally escaped the dogs.
One of the dogs was run over during the ordeal by another car. The dog survived.
The dogs are now in quarantine being checked for rabies, while the man was rushed to Memorial Health for severe bleeding. He has several bites on his arms and legs.
