Haitian Monument Plans

A delegation from around the world asked the Metropolitan Planning Commission to approve a Haitian monument for Franklin Square. The monument would recognize more than 700 free black Haitian volunteer soldiers who fought in the Siege of Savannah.

Mayor Adams and representatives from the Haitian Historical Society were in attendance.

The MCP unanimously approved the plans. They'll make the monument out of granite and bronze. It should take about a year to complete.
