Three Arrested in Connection with Hinesville Cab Driver Murder

Liberty County Sheriff's deputies have arrested three people after a Hinesville taxi driver was murdered early Sunday morning. It happened around 3:00 a.m. on Highway 84 in Hinesville. The Liberty County Sheriff's Department says Larry Dugger, who works for the Yellow Cab Company, was shot and killed during a botched robbery attempt.

Sandra Wells, the owner of Yellow Cab, knew Dugger for years. "He was just the nicest guy that you would ever want to meet," she says.  "He was very gentle. There was not an angry bone in his body."

Early Sunday morning, Dugger called dispatch and told her he had been shot after someone tried to rob him. Wells called police; however, by the time officers got to him, he was barely conscious. Police found Larry's cab in a ditch on the side of Highway 84. Wells says the shooting was highly unusual. "Even though cab driving can be dangerous," she explains, "this hasn't happened in this town since the 1970's. You just never know when it's your time. I mean, we were talking to him on Saturday and on Sunday he's gone. You just never know." Police say all three suspects will be charged with attempted robbery and one count of murder each. If you have any more information about what happened, call police.
