SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Troy Davis supporters held a Stand Up For Justice rally today at 38th Street Park, two days before the decision of the Supreme Court.
Eleven days ago the courts granted Davis a last minute stay of execution while they considered his appeal. Davis has been on Death Row since 1991, when he was then convicted of killing a Savannah police officer.
The NAACP said they regretted Officer MacPhail's death, but they wanted to make sure the wrong man didn't die for the crime.
"We send our condolences over and over again out to his family, to his mother, to his son, to his brother and sister; but what we also say to them is this is not in celebration of Officer MacPhail's life being taken, this is a celebration and a call not to kill the wrong man," said Edward Dubose, President, Georgia State Conference, NAACP.
