Yesterday morning, Harry Eugene Austin turned himself in at Chatham County Police headquarters. Investigators say Austin was driving an SUV and ran a red light at the intersection of Highways 17 and 204 Monday afternoon.
Austin's vehicle broadsided the car driven by 83-year-old William Herrmann. Herrmann died of his injuries during treatment at Memorial Health. Austin then fled the scene.
He is now in the Chatham County jail charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and probation violation. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
