09/11 2002 Hilton Head Aquatics Kids for Kids Swim Marathon, in remembrance of the tragedies that occurred on
September 11, 2001. The swimmers will be swimming 206 miles (the distance between the Terrorist attack sights). Some of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to the Children's Center located on Matthews Drive on Hilton Head Island.

09/11 The Sea Pines Museum and Forest Preserve Foundation Board of Trustees hosts a dedication of the American flag in Sea Pines Circle in Hilton Head, featuring brief remarks from Mayor Tony Peeples, an appearance by the Marine Corps Color Guard, and the raising of the flag by representatives of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department and Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue.
