The Savannah Police Department is trying to keep communities well connected and invited neighborhood watch groups, community businesses and others to a Savannah Community Action Network meeting.
SCAN is a way to link communities together by email. Messages are sent to alert neighborhoods about crime going on in their area. They'll also pass along suspect descriptions, and anything that will help keep the community aware of its surroundings.
"The awareness of this community is the critical component of crime prevention," said Cpl. Albert Jeffcoat. "This is what we want to do. We want to get a consistent crime prevention program in place."
The SCAN program is in its eighth month. Police say it's already had tremendous success.
