Accused Low Country Child Sex Offender Faces New Charge

A Low Country teacher, already facing numerous charges for crimes against children, is facing a new one.

Yesterday, 44-year-old Phillip Underwood-Sheppard of Beaufort, South Carolina, was formally charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Sheppard, who was a teacher at Coosa Elementary School, now faces a total of 20 charges in connection with eight victims.

The latest charge stems from an incident that happened between February and April of this year in the school's music room. The victim is a seven-year-old boy.

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies arrested Sheppard at the end of April, and he has been in the Beaufort County Detention Center since. The investigation is ongoing.
