The decision over whether Wal-mart will be coming to Sandfly has been delayed--again. Chatham County commissioners discussed the issue of rezoning the proposed site at today's meeting.
A county ordinance states that if land zoned for a certain type of development has no activity for two years, it has to be reevaluated. The land in question has not been reevaluated since 1989. A motion was passed today to have the Metropolitan Planning Commission come up with a list of other properties in the unincorporated areas of the county that have not been reevaluated in the past two years, which means a Wal-mart decision will have to wait.
"Well, I think that every other aspect of the ordinance is supposed to be followed, and this is one part of our existing ordinance, and it should be followed just like every other section," said the MPC's Helen Stone.
The MPC must provide a list of those properties that need to be reevaluated at the next commission meeting.
