We heard last week from Georgia governor Roy Barnes that Daimler Chrysler is coming to Chatham County. What we haven't heard is an announcement directly from the company. Why hasn't Daimler Chrysler made an official announcement about the plant? The company was absent from last week's announcement and has not released an official statement and that has some people scratching their heads.
"If you asked me to rate it," said Pooler mayor Buddy Carter, 'it is 95 to 99 percent chance they're are coming here."
Mayor Carter, like many others, is energized by the news. His city is expected to grow at an unbelievable rate and he feels it's only a matter of time before the company makes an official announcement.
"I have been assured by the people they are coming," he told us. "It's a matter of procedure and getting it through the board so it can get approved."
Many feel Daimler Chrysler may wait until their stockholders meeting in July to make an official announcement, but say we didn't jump the gun. Carter says he doesn't think officials have been premature.
Again, there has been no word either way from the company, but it is expected to make an official announcement soon.
