Students gathered in support of Red Ribbon Week.
If you see lots of people wearing the color red this week, there's a reason. Today the Savannah-Chatham County School District kicked off its 2002 Red Ribbon Week. They started the celebration with a ceremony held in front of the board of education building on Bull Street. Dozens of people showed up for the event and several schools participated by singing patriotic songs, getting ready for a week of postive drug-free messages.
"The children are even younger as they use drugs," said Savannahian K. Chris Baker. "Just this week we had two big drug busts. Those particular drugs are going to get to our kids."
Schools throughout the district have events planned all week promoting the positive message.
