Constitutional Amendment Number 1 would add a requirement for candidates: they'd have to pay their taxes.
If passed, it would bar anyone from running for office who's been in default on any federal, state, local or property taxes for longer than a year. And it's even more strict for those running for offices that set tax rates, like county commission or the legislature. People seeking those offices cannot have defaulted on their taxes period, for any length of time.
Protestors in downtown Savannah have surrounded Georgia State Senator Michael Williams' deportation bus and are preventing the bus from moving. At least one person has been arrested so far.
