Democratic Rally in Johnson Square

Quite a number of local democrats turned out for a rousing rally in Savannah today, in historic Johnson Square. Elected leaders joined clergymen, business and labor leaders trying to stir up support for democratic candidates at the local, state and federal levels. But the man of the hour, according to event organizers, was Charles "Champ" Walker of Augusta, who's engaged in a heated battle to represent the 12th Congressional District.

"This is a tough journey, but we are excited, because our opponent has been exposed and none of the ads are true and word is getting out," said Walker.

Walker says he's counting on a strong showing in Savannah, similar to those he enjoyed in the primary and runoff. He's running against republican Max Burns of Screven County.
