SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - This week’s WTOC Top Teacher has been a nurse for more than 15 years.
In recent years, Laura Todd has also added teaching to her title. She hopes she can help students in Ludowici learn more about the opportunities, not just in nursing, but in the entire medical field.
Todd’s health service class at Long County High School looks more like a doctor’s office with blood pressure machines, hospital beds, and CPR dummies, which her students put to the rest.
“And practice respiratory, and my third level class, they get to draw blood, prick their finger and test their glucose,” Todd said. “We do a lot.”
Todd has been teaching at Long County High School for three years.
“She is a wonderful teacher for our students and we are very glad to have her,” said Sherry Lester, Principal, Long County High School. “She is an asset to our school. She is also the advisor for health occupation student advisors of America. She takes them to competition and state conferences as well."
Todd still works in the medical field as well as teaches, and goes above and beyond trying to help motivate her students.
“Ms. Todd has been my teacher. She’s always cared about her students and our grades, even other classes. Helped me pick the field I want to do. She’s a really great teacher,” said student, Madison Stanfield.
“To teach something I love in the medical field, it’s a blessing to teach these kids,” Todd said.
