SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Islands High standout Kalen Deloach had a pretty busy week.
But it’s one the Sharks' linebacker won’t ever forget.
Deloach arrived back in Savannah Friday after playing in the Under Armour All-American Game Thursday night in Orlando. The Shark star became the first player from Savannah to suit up in the Under Armour showcase.
“It was a great experience,” Deloach says. “I got to learn a lot of things that I didn’t know. It’s going to help me in college because I’ll be playing against athletes like that in college.”
Deloach got the start at linebacker for Team Ballaholics and led his team to a 28-27 victory over Team Flash. He says being able to start was a huge honor.
“It meant a lot to me because it showed that my hard work paid off,” Deloach says. “I was able to put on for the city I come from.”
Deloach’s head coach in the game was Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. The Florida State signee says he was glad to play for the Seminole legend, and feels he held his own against the nation’s best.
“I think I played pretty good,” he says. “I still have some things I need to work on, but it is what it is.”
Deloach says being able to represent his home is what he took the most pride in from his All-American Game experience.
“Not very many people get to play in this game from Savannah,” he notes. “So it was a great opportunity, and I had to do what I do best.”
