SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - From the Academy to helping cut down on crime, over a dozen recruits are now Chatham County police officers.
Fourteen new officers were presented with their badges during a ceremony at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum on Friday. The ceremony symbolizes the start of the officer’s law enforcement career.
Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley says this class - and others who are still in training - put the department closer to being fully-staffed.
“Including those officers, we are only five officers short of our 100 percent staffing goal, which I think is an excellent progress that we’ve made in under a year, and generally, you may never be 100 percent staffed based on a variety of things. We’re pretty proud of that accomplishment. We’re going to continue to work towards our 100 percent, but I’m pretty proud of what we’ve done in less than a year.”
We want to say congratulations to the new officers and thank you to all first responders and military.
