Chatham County Sheriff honored by LGBTQ organization

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Chatham County sheriff John Wilcher was honored Saturday night at Georgia Equality’s 2019 Legislative Preview event. He received the 2019 Champion for Equality Award.

Wilcher was honored for his efforts to advance fairness, safety and opportunities for LGBTQ people in Chatham County. The board and staff of Georgia Equality were also on hand to discuss what the community can expect to come out of the State Capitol in 2019.

“They’ve been very good to me. They’re human beings and they have rights. They have things they want to do to make this community better. So I don’t question what they do,” said Sheriff Wilcher.

Sheriff Wilcher has been with Georgia Equality for 3 years.
