HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Three suspects are behind bars after an armed robbery at a Parker’s gas station on Hilton Head Island, Thursday night.
Investigators say just after midnight, employees at the gas station on William Hilton Parkway reported they were robbed by three subjects at gunpoint. They told officials the three men entered the store, demanded cash, then got away in a vehicle. Deputies who responded to the scene saw the vehicle driving away from the store on Main Street, and attempted to stop it.
The driver did not stop and continued to drive across U.S. 278, turning onto some side roads in an attempt to get away. He eventually stopped in the parking lot next to HHI Christian Academy, where investigators say several suspects jumped out and ran. Officials were able to catch up to three of them in the Hilton Head Gardens apartment complex.
The three were arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery. Two of them - 20-year-old Darrol Johnson of Opa Locka, FL, and 24-year-old Kevin D’Haiti of Miami, FL - were charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. The other suspect - 20-year-old Denzel Johnson of Opa Locka, FL, was charged with conspiracy. They were transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated. They have not yet received bond hearings.
Investigators are working to find the other male suspects who got away from the vehicle.
