SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia Tech is the 2019 Thrasher Cup champion.

Georgia Tech beats UGA to claim Thrasher Cup

The Yellow Jackets held off Georgia for a 3-2 win Saturday to claim the program’s seventh Savannah Hockey Classic title and first since 2012.

As expected, it was a chippy game from the start.

The score was tied at a goal apiece after the first period, but Tech took a 2-1 lead in the second when Michael Leon pounced on a rebound and put it in a wide open net. The Jackets padded their lead when Min Kim scored with around 10 minutes to play in the game.

Georgia would add a goal to tighten the gap to just one, but couldn’t get the game back to even.

The Seminoles led 4-2 after one period, and kept the Gators attack at bay for a victory to close out the 2019 Savannah Hockey Classic.

Patrick Kenefick had three goals and an assist to lead the Florida State attack.
