Crews fixing power outage issues in Savannah, Hilton Head Island

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - Power has been restored to the majority of Palmetto Electric customers in Beaufort County, SC.

The number of customers without power quickly dwindled during the Thursday morning hours. The number of customers without power was over 12,000 at about 5 a.m. The majority of those customers were on Hilton Head Island.

A storm system moved through the WTOC viewing area, but the official cause of the power outage is unknown at this time.

Heavy rain with wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour during the morning commute. Use extra caution driving on bridges and overpasses!

Power has been restored to Georgia Power customers in Southside Savannah as well. Over 2,000 people were without power at about 5 a.m. Thursday.

Georgia Power crews were out working in the rain on White Bluff Road near Tibet Avenue during the early morning hours.
