Savannah-Chatham students raise money for disaster victims

Dollars for Disasters week begins in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -Students at Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools are raising money to support victims of disasters.

The schools are participating in the 11th annual "Dollars for Disasters week."

The campaign started on Monday and will end on Friday.

Students will rise money to go to the American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia and the school who raises the most by the end of the week will get a pizza party courtesy of Domino’s.

“It’s important for the children to learn at a young age how to give back," said Esther Sheppard, Executive Director with the American Red Cross. "Simply because it teaches them how to give of themselves, how to go above and beyond, and how to help their mankind.”

West Chatham Middle School has won the winning title for the past 9 years

This year, the American Red Cross hopes the Dollars for Disasters campaign will raise $20,000!
