STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - If you live or work in Statesboro, you have the chance to give city leaders your thoughts on how the city grows in the future.
The city held one of its comprehensive planning meetings on Tuesday. City leaders say they need to hear people’s priorities and concerns about the directions the city takes as it develops. The plan helps guide future decisions from zoning to funding for city budgets.
Planners say they want to know what people like or don’t like for decisions in the future.
“It’s essential that we get public input on this comprehensive plan so we know what people want in the areas of greenspace planning, recreation planning, and really the overall planning of the city as we move forward,” said city planner, Frank Neal. “We’ll take that information, along with the surveys and other info we get from other citizens. We have to have our plan completed by the end of June for the state to approve and to maintain our local government status.”
The city is also required to have a comprehensive plan to qualify for certain state and federal grants, and they’re required to update it on a regular basis.
If you weren’t able to attend Tuesday’s meeting, you can visit the City of Statesboro’s website and submit your thoughts there.
