MCINTOSH COUNTY, GA - Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has signed an executive order to place the McIntosh County Superior Clerk of Court under investigation.
Governor Kemp has appointed a committee to investigate criminal charges, alleged misconduct, or alleged incapacity against Rebecca McFerrin.
McFerrin was sworn into office in January of 2016. She’s one of the four constitutional officers in the county who is elected -next to the sheriff, probate judge, and tax commissioner.
We spoke to Ms. McFerrin on the phone Friday. She declined to comment on the investigation but did tell us she is still employed as Superior Court Clerk and she currently works with five judges in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit.
The circumstances surrounding the investigation are still unclear.
The committee includes Attorney General Chris Carr, who has declined to comment, and two clerks of superior court from other counties. They will have 30 days to conduct their investigation and report back to the governor.
