Beaufort Co. teen arrested on attempted murder charge

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A 16-year-old Beaufort County teen is in jail after police served him with an arrest warrant for an attempted murder charge.

U.S. Marshals, Beaufort Police Officers, and officers with the South Carolina Department of Probation and Parole were searching a Prince Street residence for Gecoby Daise. Daise was wanted in connection to a 2018 shooting, where he allegedly fired at another man. The victim, who was not injured, was able to identify Daise. Daise was located and arrested without a struggle.

As officers were taking Daise into custody, they also located a wanted probation absconder 19-year-old Gerard Daise. The elder Daise was arrested for probation violation. S.C. Probation and Parole Officers also located:

  • four handguns (three were reported as stolen, two were stolen from within the City of Beaufort)
  • a large quantity of marijuana
  • body armor

WTOC first learned about this incident with the announcement of a lockdown at Beaufort Elementary School.

School officials say BES was placed on lockdown by law enforcement Monday morning as officers served a warrant in the surrounding neighborhood. The school district had an extra presence of Beaufort Police officers at the school as a precaution as well.

The lockdown was lifted at 11:40 a.m. and the school has resumed normal operations, according to the Beaufort County School District.
