STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -The college football season wrapped up in January, but the 2019 season began on Wednesday for the Georgia Southern Eagles.
The team achieved a historic turnaround in 2018. It might be easy to rest on their laurels. But this squad wants to build on their success with higher goals this year.
The 2019 Eagles kicked off the spring at Paulson with asperations to build on 2018. They went from 2-10 in 2017 to 10-3 and winning the program’s second bowl game. Both players and coaches said today they have to set their sights higher. That includes winning the Sunbelt Conference as well as proving last year was not a fluke. Head Coach Chad Lunsford says the foundation for the fall starts now.
“I think spring ball always comes down to fundamentals and technique and getting better at your position and making sure you’ve got competition at each position,” said Eagles Head Coach Chad Lunsford.
The Eagles played their last game in mid-December. Coach Lunsford feels those extra practices before the Raycom Camellia Bowl game them a jump start on this spring. The spring game March 9 will give us a guage of what the 2019 squad will look like.
