SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - The PGA Tour presented an award Wednesday in the Lowcountry.
Second Helpings - who works with the Heritage - received the PGA Tour 2018 Charity of the Year Award. The award comes with a $30,000 grant from the Tour to help Second Helpings. The organization was chosen because of its mission and way of alleviating hunger. They save food that would be thrown out by grocery stores. They then give it to organizations and churches that serve those in need in the Lowcountry.
“We have a truck, one of our eight refrigerated trucks with over 200,000 miles, and this will be the critical mass that we will go forward and order a new truck. With out this, we couldn’t do it, and we’re very humbled and grateful and awed by this honor,” said Larry Landry, President of Second Helpings.
Second Helpings has given out more than 30 million pounds of food since it started in 1992.
