HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - If you hear about a giant Ferris wheel on Hilton Head Island this weekend, here’s why. The Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival is back for its 12th year, and Saturday’s main festival day is an event for the whole family.
If you love seafood, then Hilton Head Island is the place to be this week. The annual HHI Seafood Festival combines local cuisine, live entertainment and celebrity chefs for a weeklong celebration.
“Saturday is the big day. We have about 25 local restaurants and restaurants from other areas, food trucks, that all prepare their specialties, we have a lot of retail vendors, local craftsmen from the state and out of state. We’ve got a huge kid’s zone and a Ferris wheel rock a plane so it’s family friendly. All the items are priced between 1-5 dollars so yeah you pay the ticket price to get in but it’s very reasonable. There’s something for everyone Saturday,” said Andrew Carmines of Hudson Seafood. Carmines is also the president of the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation.
“There's obviously a lot of seafood but also a really wide array of food not just seafood. In the offseason this is a really big event that draws people to the island. That's important, really the lifeblood of our community is tourism. To have this week where we really have a lot of people excited about food and excited about culture and excited about Hilton Head it's a lot of goodwill for the community,” said Clayton Rollison, of Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar.
The Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival is hosted by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization that raises money for other non-profit organizations including the Coastal Discovery Museum, Island Recreation Scholarship Fund, Waddell Mariculture Center, Port Royal Sound Foundation, Gullah Heritage Museum and Medical University of South Carolina.
