SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -Earth Day isn’t until Monday, but we celebrated early in Savannah on Saturday.
The Savannah-Chatham Sustainability Coalition put on the 19th annual Earth Day festival, bringing out a big crowd to Daffin Park.
This was the first time the event was held in Daffin Park.
Everyone who came out had the chance to visit booths set up by local vendors, promoting all-natural ingredients and earth-conscious products.
The people we spoke with say they take Earth Day seriously, and like to see other people doing the same.
“Earth Day is extremely important to me," said Virginia Knowles, who attended the festival. "And as you can see around here, a whole lot of people agree with that.”
“I think the realization that a city that has a lot of trees, a beautiful city, I think the reduce, reuse recycle becomes a part of that whole theme for Savannah, in making it a better place and a more beautiful place to be,” said Knowles’ friend Margaret Govelitz.
The theme for this year’s event was “Protect our Species.” That’s also the same theme of the international earth day celebration.
