Second Harvest teams up with Walmart, Sam’s Club to help stock food bank

Donating to America's Second Harvest

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - America’s Second Harvest is teaming up with Walmart to help stock up their food bank before summer gets here.

The annual campaign is called “Fight Hunger, Spark Change.” It started Monday at local Walmarts and Sams’ Clubs. It will run until May 20.

There are a few ways you can get involved. You can buy one of 18 brands, and a portion of that sale will go to the food bank, or you can make a quick donation at the checkout.

“We’re actually going out and talking to the cashiers and asking them to remind people of the opportunity. I mean, $1 here provides five meals, so you can imagine as you’re checking out, if you just had that $1 or $2, we’ll be reaching a lot of people in our community," said Mary Jane Crouch, America’s Second Harvest Coastal Georgia.

Crouch says this makes a huge difference in our communities, especially with more than 60 percent of kids in Chatham County eligible for free or reduced-cost lunch.
