BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Three heroes will receive a proper burial service in Beaufort on Wednesday, April 24, and the community is invited to help to honor them.
Wreaths Across America Beaufort, a nonprofit veteran’s group, says these vets will not have any family or friends at the service, so several organizations will be in attendance, like groups associated with the American Legion and veteran’s committees. They're also asking the community to stand in and honor them.
The cemetery director says it's common for coroners to come across unclaimed urns. Often, they'll do their research and find these remains belong to former military heroes. When that happens, several groups will come together to make sure these service members receive a proper burial.
According to Wreaths Across America Beaufort, two of these service members were with the Army, the third served in the Navy.
The public is invited to help honor these heroes. The service will begin at noon Wednesday at the Beaufort National Cemetery, located at 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
Organizers do suggest you get there early.
