YEMASSEE, SC (WTOC) - Fifty 5th-6th graders from Fennell Elementary School in Yemassee made a huge step for their future Tuesday night.
They graduated from the 10-week D.A.R.E. program. It stands for “Drug Abuse Resistance Education.”
Corporal Mike Strauss has been working with their program for more than three years, and he says it’s so important.
“These kids are our future. If these kids aren’t making good decisions at the elementary level, by the time they get to high school, they are going to be the kids we end up dealing with and making bad decisions, which results in messing up their future," Cpl. Strauss said. “It’s important to start with them when they are young, so that it becomes a part of who they are and who their character is.”
