SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Jenkins junior defensive end Akelo Stone announced he has committed to Georgia Tech on Friday after receiving an offer on January 21.
He took to Twitter to make the announcement, “First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play on the next level. Saying that, I would like to thank all my coaches, my teammates, and family for helping and encouraging me to be the man I am today- and to my Mom, thank you for everything you do for me and your unconditional love and support. Also, a big thank you goes to all the schools for giving me a chance to play at the next level. With that being said, I am excited to announce that I am furthering my athletic and academic career at the Georgia Institute of Technology. #togetherweswarm”
24/7 Sports and Rivals lists stone as as a three-star recruit at 6′3″ and 244 pounds. Rivals ranks him as the 106th best player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2020.
Stone held offers from Air Force, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, East Carolina, Florida International, Georgia State, Missouri, Navy, Savannah State, South Florida, Wake Forest, West Virginia and a host of other schools.
Stone was named an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection after helping lead the Warriors to the GHSA Class 3A Elite Eight in back-to-back seasons. He had 71 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and five sacks.
Stone is the 11th prospect to commit to Tech’s 2020 signing class- the fifth in the last week.
