STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - From big cities to small towns, more and more people take an interest in their downtown area.
The Downtown Statesboro Development Authority just received its 2019 national accreditation renewal. They say it’s just one sign of the growth and potential of Downtown Statesboro.
First Friday brings crowds downtown each month, but leaders say they’re working to bring more businesses and restaurants to bring people to the area. They say downtowns nationwide have gone through a rebirth as people look for local things to do for families and date nights.
The executive director says some of the growth they’ve seen helps attract even more.
“Once you get people living, shopping, and eating downtown, it builds more momentum, and you get more restaurants and more people want to live downtown,” Allen Muldrew said.
So far this year, downtown has seen more locally-owned shops open, with more coming soon.
