STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Shai Werts will look a little different on the field for Georgia Southern in 2019.

It’s not a change to his physique and it’s doubtful the Eagle quarterback will be differing his playing style. He’ll just be in a different spot in your programs.

Werts will change his uniform number to #1 in 2019 after wearing #4 each of his first two seasons in Statesboro.

The Clinton, SC native all but confirmed the switch on Twitter with a picture of himself wearing a #1 jersey watching video of another former #1 for the Eagles, Jerick McKinnon, scoring the go-ahead touchdown in the famous upset win over Florida.

During his time with the Eagles, #1 has been worn by running back L.A. Rambsy and tight end Ellis Richardson. Both have since graduated from the program.

Werts is also listed on the Eagles’ official roster as #1. Georgia Southern opens the season August 31 at LSU.
