SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Six area high school baseball teams faced win or go home scenarios Friday afternoon.
Calvary Day and Jeff Davis were able to survive and advance, while Benedictine, Wayne County, and Vidalia all saw their seasons come to an end.
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN DAY 7, CALVARY DAY 9
The Cavaliers tied the game at 1 with a Lance Longgrear RBI double, but FPD had an answer.
The Vikings led 6-1 heading to the bottom of the 5th. But Calvary responded with eight runs over the next two innings to take a 9-6 lead.
Even after allowing a run in the 7th, the Cavs were able to slam the door and advance to the state quarterfinals.
Calvary now joins rivals Savannah Christian and Savannah Country Day in the Class A-Private State Quarterfinals. The Cavs will host Hebron Christian.
CRISP COUNTY 7, BENEDICTINE 4
The Benedictine Cadets will not be winning back-to-back state baseball titles. That after Crisp County upset BC 7-4 in Game 3 of the series.
The Cadets took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd on a two run homer from Vanderbilt commit Carter Holton. But the Cougars took advantage of a few BC errors in the next frame, and took the lead on a two-RBI single from Connor Richmond.
