SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - What does it take to become Savannah’s man and woman of the year? Lots of fundraising for a good cause.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society held its 7th annual Man and Woman of the Year Grand Finale Gala Friday night.
Over the past several months, community and business leaders have competed at raising money to help people with blood cancers.
This year the society managed to raise more than $439,000.
Event organizers says everyone who helped deserve recognition.
"For these people that are here, they've been asked or bought tickets or whatever to come to this event, because I feel like they have a connection to this cause. They want to help us find a cure for blood cancers,” said Patrick McCarthy, with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Sarah Lord was named woman of the year and Jared Brown won the man of the year award.
Congratulations to you both!
