SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Hostess City will be seeing a lot of mothers weekend.
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 12, and tourism officials say Savannah will be filled with families as they celebrate with their moms.
Joe Marinelli, President of Visit Savannah, says he's already checked in with a few hotels who say they're getting a lot of reservations for this upcoming weekend.
Over the next few days, there will be lots of mothers celebrating with their families, whether it be dining at restaurants or touring one of the museums.
If you haven't made a reservation for your mother just yet, tourism officials say it may be best to go ahead and do it Friday before businesses are booked.
And, if you live in one of the surrounding counties and you’re not sure if your mom would like to spend a day in Savannah, statistics say she probably will. Marinelli says we see a good blend of local moms as well as out of town moms when it comes to Mother’s Day weekend in Savannah.
A new survey shows moms aren’t always getting the gift they want. TripAdvisor says 70-percent of families think they know where mom wants to eat on Mother’s Day, but less than half of moms agree. A third of mothers say they want to go out to brunch, but only 16-percent say they are getting brunch.
The next most popular dining choices are a home-cooked meal and going out to dinner for casual dining.
Some more popular gifts include spending the day with their children, their partner, or their extended family, instead of being alone.
