BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - As the school year winds down, it means the sports seasons are also wrapping up across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry
One team left chasing a title: the Battery Creek softball team- the Dolphins needing just one win over two time defending Class 3-A champ Hanahan to advance to the state title series and they got it on Friday night, beating the defending champions seven to one.
They advance to Monday’s State Championship where they will be traveling north to face Union County. Game one will be Monday, game two on Wednesday and game three (if necessary) on Friday. The location and time have not been announced yet.
“One inning at a time. We’re going to know that we can’t let anything get us ahead of ourselves. We’re going to take it pitch-by-pitch," said Head Coach Christian Carr. “One inning at a time- we were going to try to win every inning and we did that tonight, so that’s why we came out on top.”
Senior Alexis Ortiz agreed.
“We knew we had it. We kept practicing and working and we just- we were ready to win this game and go to state.”
