Fallen officer receives transport with honors to GBI crime lab

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -Sergeant Kelvin Ansari’s body was transported from Memorial Health to the GBI Crime lab with full honors on Monday morning.

“We have a large family," said Charles Roberson, the Savannah Police Chaplain Coordinator. "When something happens to one of us, one of the officers, something happens to all of them, so it’s very tough.”

Fellow officers held a firm salute as the body of the fallen sergeant was taken through the emergency room entrance, draped in a flag, at 7:01 a.m.

Sgt. Ansari’s body began its journey southward nine minutes after it was placed in a hearse. A procession made up of roughly 80 vehicles were part of motorcade. Most were made up of Savannah Police, but others included Chatham County, Georgia State Patrol, Pooler Police, and Savannah State.

The procession turned towards Savannah’s southside, heading down Abercorn Extension leading to Mohawk Street. Citizens lined Mohawk Street, before the procession came to an end at the GBI crime lab. For Monday, a police force and a city work to find a way to properly mourn and honor one of its fallen men in blue.
