SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It’s a busy time of year for high school basketball as the coaching carousel gets moving.

The Savannah scene has already seen three changes in two days.

After five years at Savannah Christian, Travis Priddy is heading to the Palmetto State to take over the Hilton Head Christian varsity boys’ program.

Priddy will take over an Eagles team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2011-2012.

The longtime coach led the Raiders to three state playoff appearances in his five seasons, including a second round berth in 2017-2018.

Priddy was the head coach at Savannah Country Day for two seasons before his time at SCPS.

GANT RETURNING TO SAVANNAH TO LEAD SCPS GIRLS

Savannah native John Gant is returning to his hometown to lead the Savannah Christian girls’ varsity program.

Gant spent the last seven seasons at Wiregrass Ranch High School in Florida, leading the Bulls to a 195-66 record and a district championship in 2017.

He previously coached at Bible Baptist and Calvary Day before entering the corporate world.

Gant takes over a Raider program that has seen a trend in the right direction. SCPS reached three straight state playoffs under former head coach Josh Kerkau. The Raiders reached the region title game in 2019, and hosted a state playoff game.

Gant is the father of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and former Savannah Sand Gnat John Gant.

Former Calvary Day standout Alexus Parker is returning to Savannah to lead the St. Andrew’s girls varsity program.

“Alexus brings a great deal of talent, passion, and experience to the position,” St. Andrew’s Head of School Dr. Kelley Waldron said in a statement released by the school. “We are truly fortunate to have her lead our young women on and off the court.”

Parker was a star for the Cavaliers, leading Calvary to the Class A-Private state semis in 2013, before having a stellar college career at Prairie View A&M. There, Parker led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding and was named a BOXTOROW HBCU All-American.
