BEAUFORT. S.C. (WTOC) - There were plenty of fans in attendance for Battery Creek’s state title performance on the softball field, but one, maybe a little more special than the rest.
Barry Malphrus doesn’t miss a home game according to school officials- he rarely does. He even traveled to Union County for game one of the state championship on Monday.
Malphrus says he doesn’t have children of his own, but considers the players like his kids and he was as excited as anyone for the win.
“I could not be prouder of the entire organization and of each individual one that’s out here and even those that didn’t play an inning today, were a part of the team and they should all be thankful to be a part of it and we thank God for the opportunity for them to be there today.”
The players greeted Malphrus with hugs as he stepped onto the field after the big win and they took a group photo with their biggest supporter.
