BAXLEY, Ga. (WTOC) - Some airports in our area are getting a big boost from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Airports in Baxley and Claxton will receive $2.6 million each in federal grants for upgrades. In Baxley, they’ll grade and resurface their entire runway.
City leaders say the airport in Baxley welcomes 400 or more planes per year of people coming to or through their community. They believe a better runway will bring even more.
“We have small jets that land there. We have twin engine planes. There’s a corporate center and meeting rooms," said Baxley Mayor, Tim Varnadoe.
According to the grant, Claxton will use theirs for a parallel taxiway and terminal apron.
