SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Three area high school baseball teams faced a do-or-die Game 3 Wednesday night. For two of them, they’ll play in state championship next week. For the other, the summer vacation has started.
WESLEYAN 2, SAVANNAH CHRISTIAN 3 F
Savannah Christian got back to the state championship, but had to do it in dramatic fashion.
Down a run in the 7th and down to their final out, Garrett Bradley ripped a ball into the right center that got to the wall. Pinch runner Carson Cale raced all the way home and beat the throw to tie the game at 2.
“That was probably the clutchest hit of my life," he laughed of the RBI triple.
But Bradley’s heroics weren’t finished either. The next batter was Joey White. The pitch to White got away, all the way to the backstop, and allowed Bradley to score the game-winning run.
“Boy, was that fun...man, our kids are so resilient. They were down, came back, went down again, and came back again,” says assistant head coach Matthew Oglesby.
The Raiders will play Tattnall Square Tuesday afternoon at historic Grayson Stadium for the state title.
JEFF DAVIS 13, BLECKLEY CO. 12 F
It was a slugfest in Cochran, but the Yellow Jackets were able to dull the Nuggets’ attack and get a Game 3 win.
It was Caleb Leggith who drove in the winning run. A bases loaded pop fly to right field allowed Garrison Miles to run home and give the Jackets a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
The Yellow Jackets will play Rockmart in the AA state title game in Macon.
EFFINGHAM COUNTY 1 HERITAGE-CONYERS 12 F
Effingham County didn’t have the same luck of their Game 3 partners. The Rebels’ season come to a close in the state semifinals.
