SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The 10th annual Coastal Empire All-Star Soccer games were held in Memorial Stadium all day Saturday.
There were 4 boys teams and 3 girls teams composed of the best players from over 30 schools. More than 200 players were nominated.
Coaches from Daytona State, Oxford College of Emory, Andrew College, Thomas University, Truett McConnell, Georgia Southern University, Coker University, Brewton Parker College, USC Aiken, SCAD, Reinhardt University, Middle Georgia University, Brenau University, Columbia University, ABAC, SCAD, Emmanuel College, Brewton Parker College, Lagrange College, Point University, South Georgia State College, and Thomas University were all on hand to watch the local talent.
The college coaches voted on MVP.
The boys MVP was Caio Faria Lara of Windsor Forest High School.
Mandy Kelsh from Glenn Academy won it on the girls side.
The goal- get more athletes from the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire to the next level.
“Yeah basically we started these games 10 years ago when we realized kids didn’t have the opportunity to be seen by the college coaches in this area, so now we’re going forward and getting them seen and we’ve got over 13 boys schools here and about 12 girls schools today,” said Cam Turner, the event organizer.
