CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - Small towns across Georgia play host to bicycle riders during this week each summer.
The state’s oldest bike ride made its first stop ever Friday in Claxton. Bikers pedaled their way into town from Swainsboro to Metter, then to Claxton, as part of Bike Ride Across Georgia, or BRAG. The annual summer caravan takes riders from one part of Georgia to another in one week.
Riders got to stop, rest, eat lunch, and enjoy some Southern hospitality. Locals can’t remember BRAG ever passing through town, let alone making a stop, and they hope to make a good first impression.
“We look forward to the fact that hopefully they bring their family back, show them some of the things they’ve seen, and some of the things we have there in Claxton,” said Mayor Terry Branch.
They also rolled out the invitation to return and take part in Claxton’s annual ride, “Cruisin’ in the Country.”
From Claxton, the riders will make their way to Hinesville for the night.
