SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - For the first time, the United House of Prayer Shout Band performed for the Telfair Museums' Juneteenth Celebration.
The band was just one of several acts that performed at the Jepson Center Saturday.
The family day featured storytelling, music, and demonstrations celebrating the African-American history.
This celebration was the first of many celebrations to take place across the greater Savannah area to highlight Juneteenth, a celebration marking the end of slavery.
"I had people coming pass me, black and white, from all over town saying, 'Happy Juneteenth' because they know it's about freedom regardless. Everyone was free that day," Juneteenth Curator Vaughnette Goode-Walker said.
Telfair Museums offered free admission for the event.
