SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Just call Johnson Atom Smasher Brandon Harris Goldilocks.
For him, Elon was the perfect fit.
“It’s not big, but it’s not small either. It felt just right," Harris told WTOC Tuesday. "When I saw the gym, I thought this gym is better than many high major program gyms I’ve seen. So I was like, yeah I think that’s it.”
Harris had offers from Power 5 schools Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Kansas State. But ultimately he decided the fit was more important to him than any program prestige.
“Some folks go high major and they don’t see the floor. You know, they’ve been sold a dream,” Harris says. “I found a mid-major school, good academics, close to home.”
Now the Smasher standout will continue to focus on his senior year, hoping to help Johnson match the high expectations that will surround the team this season. Harris believes his early commitment will actually help him on the floor this year.
“Last year sometimes, we’d go to out of town tournaments, and there’d be a bunch of college coaches sitting in the sidelines. I’d be like I can’t mess up," Harris remembers. "Now that I’ve committed, I don’t have to worry about that. I just can play ball.”
