Police in Statesboro have questions for two men who detectives believe shot each other Friday night.
The double shooting took place on Lanier Drive in the “Cambridge at Southern: The Palms" apartment complex. Police say a man went to the apartments and confronted a man he knows who lives there, and they shot at each other in the parking lot. Statesboro’s police chief says the case then went in several directions.
“There was the location of the actual fight. There were a couple of apartments nearby that we know one of the participants went to,” said Chief Mike Broadhead. “Another participant showed up in a pickup truck and drove it away, and that truck had several bullet holes in it.”
The men both faced surgeries over the weekend. Meanwhile, police have questioned witnesses as well as people connected to both men. The case leaves neighbors hoping it doesn’t happen again.
“I just feel like if people would calm down in the things they’re doing, they wouldn’t have to go that far,” said neighbor, Jaikerra Irwin. “I honestly don’t believe in using guns to decide a conflict.”
Chief Broadhead says they’ll question the two men as soon as they’re medically able.
Ownership and management of the apartment complex released the following statement.
“Our highest priority is the safety and security of our residents. We complete a criminal background check of every applicant and have zero tolerance for violent or criminal behavior.”
The statement also says security patrols are provided at the complex. Management says it will “fully cooperate with law enforcement in every way possible...”
Both men are expected to recover. Meanwhile, you can contact police anonymously if you have any information.
